Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juice

Fresh juice provides us with minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, proteins and much more. All of these factors are vital to maintaining good health. You will find that when you make fresh juice a daily part of your diet, you will have increased energy, a glowing complexion, strengthened immune system, stronger bones and a reduced risk of disease. It is recommended that you drink at least 16 ounces of freshly squeezed juice each day.

For many – if not most – of us, it’s a constant battle between our cravings for fattening food and wanting to lose weight. Drinking freshly squeezed organic juice is a great way to feed your body condensed nutrients that are easy to digest.

Fresh juice gives your body a break from the digestion process and fills you up, making it easier to lose weight. And as a bonus, because fresh juice has not been heated (heat destroys many beneficial micronutrients), your immune system has more energy to heal whatever might be ailing you.

You can be very creative in making fresh juice. Look for interesting varieties of fruits as they come to market (Satsuma tangerines, kumquats, Key limes, blood oranges), vegetables (try jicama, ginger, fennel, lacinato kale) and herbs (like spearmint and lemongrass) and mix them (fruits with fruits, vegetables with vegetables, herbs with either) in new combinations.

If you have never taken a mouthful of cantaloupe juice you simply have not lived, or strawberry juice mixed with apple. Blueberry juice is a taste of liquid heaven.

The produce in supermarkets is grown with chemical fertilizers. Fruits and vegetables are usually sprayed with various pesticides thus toxins become lodged in the fibers. When juicing, most of the toxins are left with the discarded pulp. Because fruit is far lower on the food chain than animal products, toxic build-up is much less. Cows, pigs and chickens accumulate and concentrate toxic chemicals and pollutants from the environment. Unlike meat, fruit and vegetables are equipped with antioxidants and detoxifying agents which help keep the body clean of toxins.

Yes, fruits and vegetables do have pesticides and toxins present, but eating a diet high in raw fruits and vegetables will assist your body in remaining protected, mucus-free and clean. If you are blessed enough to afford organic, pesticide-free produce, then we encourage you to do so. But for most of us, organic is simply not an option. Many desperately sick, even with terminal cancers, have been healed by juicing standard produce from the local grocery store. “You do your best and God will do the rest”. During a cleansing fast, do not start resorting to bottled dead juices that have been on the shelf for six months. You are setting yourself up for a more difficult fast. There is a rush of well-being when you swallow a mouthful of living juice.

Why Fresh Juice?

Fresh juice provides us with minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, proteins and much more. All of these factors are vital to maintaining good health. You will find that when you make fresh juice a daily part of your diet, you will have increased energy, a glowing complexion, strengthened immune system, stronger bones and a reduced risk of disease. It is recommended that you drink at least 16 ounces of freshly squeezed juice each day.

There are many bottled juices available on the market today. One of the problems with these is that many of their valuable nutrients are lost during the bottling process. If you make your own juice and drink it fresh, you will have control over the quality of the fruits and vegetables you are consuming, and in many cases you will save money.

No matter what your age, it is never too late to start drinking your fruits and vegetables. Juices can flush toxins from your body, are good for your weight, heart, circulation and overall well being. Juices contain no saturated fats or added sodium and can be helpful in lowering your cholesterol.

Some Guidelines on Fresh Juice Storage

Here are recommendations for storing fresh raw vegetable juice beyond the time of juicing:

  • When juicing for storage, try to use only fresh organic vegetables.
  • Immediately after juicing, juice must be decanted into small bottles and then immediately refrigerated.
  • The juice must be stored in thick-walled plastic HDPE bottles or glass bottles, each with tight-fitting, air-tight, screw-cap seals.
  • The bottles must be filled all the way to the top, leaving little or no airspace at top.
  • The size of the bottle or container must be small enough that once it is opened and some contents used, the remainder of the contents must be used within 8 hours to prevent oxidative damage.
  • Juice an extra lemon into your juice for the citric acid that may help preserve the juice.
  • Start out with the cold produce, to ensure your juice is cold.

Fresh juice dangers

Many people think fresh juices are good in any quantities and surely harmless. However, this is not the case. Same juice can help to one person and damage another one.

You should not overestimate medicinal power of juices. You know, first of all, these are foods. Their medicinal influence is not so marked, like medicines’ one. You cannot cope with a disease due to juice therapy, you just can support your organism.

You need to drink fresh juices right after you prepare them. Even short-term keeping in fridge reduces medicinal value of juice, although its taste can remain the same.

Each juice should be used differently

Fresh Carrot juice

Fresh carrot juice is a king of vegetable juices. It contains much beta-carotene, B vitamins, potassium, calcium, cobalt and other mineral substances. All this makes carrot juice especially wholesome for children and people with weak immunity and problem skin.

Beta-carotene is very good for sight. However, you need to eat some fat food right after you drink carrot juice, this way it is assimilated better. Salad, seasoned with vegetable oil is the best variant.

Fresh Tomato juice

Tomato juice stimulates alimentary canal work, reduces risk of cancer. It is very useful for pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is low calorie and that’s why overweight people also can drink it. Fresh juice keeps drastic phytoncides, suppressing fermentation and putrefaction processes in bowels.

Drink tomato juice 20-30 minutes before meal, as it increases stomach and bowels readiness for food digestion. Addition of salt reduces juice’s medicinal qualities. Instead of salt you can add pounded garlic and fresh green: parsley, fennel, cilantro. Tomato juice is contra-indicated while gastritis, peptic ulcer, pancreatitis and cholecystitis acute conditions.

  1. I just found out that Bolthouee Farms, which used to make a wonderful, 67-calorie,

8g sugar vegetable juice called Vedge, has removed it and that leaves only fruit and sweet tea drinks. When I called, they had no explanation.

Their closest "healthy" drinks have 130+ calories and most have 3x the amount of sugar! Is that America-friendly? I don't think so!

  2. You say juices supply protein and fatty acids (fat) – which fruits (besides perhaps olives and avocados) supply fat? And do any supply more than miniscule amounts of protein?

What Are Your Thoughts?
